Dendrophilia

The work is a replica of a flower shop, built inside a former flower shop in Pori that served as an exhibition venue during the biennial. The shop was never finished: it changed throughout the exhibition, its final form shaped by the people and encounters that took place inside.

Based on a questionnaire in Pori asking what visitors would like to see in a coming exhibition, the work moves between installation, performance and floristry. A flower shop is a place where a plant becomes a product, a gift and an expression of feeling.

Dendrophilia, love of trees, reflects on the nature of art and work. How does artistic work differ from other work, and how can it be part of almost any job in which workers have the power to define and shape what they do?

Teos on kukkakaupan kopio, joka rakennettiin Porin vanhaan kukkakauppaan. Biennaalin ajan liike toimi näyttelytilana. Kauppa ei ollut koskaan valmis: se muuttui koko näyttelyn ajan, ja sen lopullisen muodon ratkaisivat ihmiset ja kohtaamiset, joita tilassa tapahtui.

Teos pohjautuu Porissa tehtyyn kyselyyn siitä, mitä näyttelyvieraat haluaisivat tulevassa näyttelyssä nähdä, ja liikkuu installaation, performanssin ja floristiikan rajalla. Kukkakauppa on paikka, jossa kasvista tulee tuote, lahja ja tunteen ilmaus.

Dendrophilia, rakkaus puihin, pohtii taiteen ja työn luonnetta. Miten taiteellinen työskentely eroaa muista töistä, ja miten se voi toisaalta olla osa lähes mitä tahansa työtä, jossa työntekijällä on valtaa määritellä ja muokata omaa työtään?
